On the eve of Earth Day celebrated on 22nd April, Environment Department, GoM, Maharashtra Pollution Control Board in association with World Trade Centre,Mumbai & knowledge Partner as Technogreen Environmental Solutions organized a two day conference dtd 20th & 21st April 2016 on ‘Pathway towards Formulation of Science Based Environmental Policy for State of Maharashtra’.
Maharashtra government introduces a mobile-based application where citizens can offer suggestions and knowledge inputs for the proposed policy. As a result of MPCB’s efforts to bring in transparency and acceptability of this policy, The Member Secretary, Dr. P. Anbalagan announced the making of Beta version of MahaSEP Andoid App for this environment policy formulation process. The App was inaugurated by Hon. Add. Chief Secretary, Smt. Malini Shankar. The App is based on the principles of ease of facilitating the digital makeover of India through providing users anytime-anywhere response mechanism. The App features a simple survey of the perception of people of Maharashtra for incorporation in the policy process and is loaded with all relevant resources & their presentations, photographs, exhibitors, etc.
Day 1 of the conference saw an interesting round table interaction between experts on climate change initiatives that are needed to guide a way for Maharashtra with eminent personalities such as Dr. Sudhir Goel, Fr. Chief Sec.-Agri., GoM chairing the session and participated by Dr. Malini Shankar, Add. Chief Sec.- Envt., GoM, Mrs. Rajasree Ray, Add. Eco. Advisor, MoF, GoI, Dr. Vikas Goswami, Head, Good & Green Godrej, Mr. Rishi Agrawal, Envt. Expert. This was followed by an even interesting session on Air Quality & Health emphasizing on Indicators of Environmental Health, Current Status & Risks Involved by Dr. Sandeep Salvi, Chest Research Foundation, Pune and Air Quality Management: A National Perspect ive by Dr. Prashant Gargava, CPCB.
Day 2 saw a unique blend of session covering innovative topics like Role of Media & communications in Environment Policy Formulation conducted Shri. Abhijeet Ghorpade, Editor, Bhavatal, Role of Economics & Health Indicators in Environmental Policy conducted by Dr. A. Hiremath, Existing Solid waste problem in Maharashtra & current status, limitations /constraints Issues conducted by Prof. Anurag Garg, IIT(B) and Policy intervention through technology for management, gap identification in existing policies & way forward by Dr. Rakesh Kapoor, Ad. Sec. (RPG). GoHP. The day was concluded with a Round table interaction on wastewater scenario and future policy determinants which was moderated by Dr. Rakesh Kumar and participated by Dr. P. Anbalagan, MS, MPCB and other MPCB representatives and finally a session by Dr. Ajay Ojha, Partner Technogreen Environmental Solutions on Phytorid Technology.
The conference saw an outstanding participation of 39 exhibitors providing insight to various range of products starting from monitoring solutions to air purifiers for basements & traffic junctions, low cost/high-tech water and wastewater treatment, zero discharge for RMC units & hazardous waste & e-waste management solutions, environment education/awareness, health monitoring through spirometry, plastic bottles upcycling , sparrow shelters including few from international consulates of Canada & Japan.
